# Ravio MCP: Access & Setup guide

## How to set up and access the Ravio MCP inside the AI assistant you already work in.

### **TL;DR.**

Ravio's MCP (Model Context Protocol) server lets you use **Ravio data inside the AI assistant you already work in**. Ask a question in plain English, and the assistant pulls live data from your Ravio account to answer it.

The MCP covers three areas:

- **Explore the Market** (benchmarks, equity, benefits, pay equity benchmarks, live market insights, and workforce analytics),
- **Analyse your Company**, and,
- If you’re subscribed to it, your **Bands**.

*Bands and Analyse your Company tools include employee personal data, such as individual pay and pay equity figures.*

Your Claude administrator controls which tools are enabled and can switch off or gate any of them.

Setup happens in two parts:

1. An administrator adds the Ravio connector to your Claude workspace once,
2. Then you, as a user, connect your own Ravio account.

### Before you start

You'll need:

- An active Ravio account with Admin, HR, Market Analyst or Recruiter roles. Which tools you can use depends on your role and your Ravio plan, so you may not see all of them.
- Your Ravio login (you'll sign in through your browser as part of setup)
- The Ravio connector added to your Claude workspace by an administrator (step one below)

If you're not sure whether your account has the right access, any Ravio Admin or HR user can check and manage your role [here](https://app.ravio.com/settings/users).

If you have questions or issues, please reach out through our slack channel or via email [product@ravio.com](mailto:product@ravio.com).

Connect via hosted URL

### Claude desktop app

On Claude Enterprise, custom connectors are added at the organisation level. So setup has two parts, and they usually involve different people.

#### **Step 1: your Claude Owner adds the connector**

Members can't add custom connectors themselves, so this has to happen first. Ask an Owner or Primary Owner of your Claude Enterprise workspace, usually IT or whoever administers Claude, to:

1. Go to **Organization settings**, then **Connectors**.
2. Select **Add**, then **Custom**, then **Web**.
3. Name it **Ravio**.
4. Enter the server URL: `https://app.ravio.com/mcp`
5. Under **Authentication**, leave **Always required** selected. Claude usually detects this for you.
6. Under **OAuth client**, leave **Use Anthropic's hosted client metadata** selected. Claude usually detects this too. Ravio handles authentication, so there's nothing else to configure here.
7. Leave **Managed authorization** off, and don't add any request headers.
8. Select **Add**.

### What to expect in the MCP

Once connected, you can ask your assistant things for **Explore market data**

- "Show me pay ranges for Sales roles across our European markets."
- "How does P50 total comp for a Product Manager in London compare to Amsterdam?"
- "What should I compare our 'Customer Success Manager P2' against?"
- "Pull the latest benchmark data for a Head of Product in the UK."
- "Get me P50/P75 comp benchmarks for Data Scientists in France."
- "Show me Backend Engineer benchmarks in Berlin in EUR, monthly, with our company median alongside the market”
- "How much data sits behind the Madrid Sales Manager benchmark?”
- "Walk me through Ravio’s career tracks and what's expected at each level”
- "What do your confidence labels mean and how do they rank?”
- "How does Lisbon compare with our base location for base salary?”

For **Analyse your Company**

- "How does our base salary compare to market, by function?"
- "What's our gender pay gap overall, and by job family?"
- "Which of our employees sit below the 25th percentile for their role?"
- "Show me our age pay spread across the company."

For **your Bands**

- "Show me our Engineering bands in Berlin against the market target."
- "Which of our bands have setup issues?"
- "Where do our Product employees sit against their band, and what would it cost to bring everyone to band minimum?"
- "Explain how the market target for our Sales bands was built."
- "Create a scenario that refreshes our UK bands to current market data." (an edit tool, so it will confirm with you first)

The assistant can only see the data your Ravio account already gives you access to. It doesn't unlock anything new, and it doesn't see other companies' raw submissions. Note that the Bands and Analyse your Company prompts return employee personal data, so the answers will contain individual pay information.

### FAQ

#### **How do users authenticate to start using Ravio in Claude?**

Each person authenticates with their own Ravio login, and Claude inherits exactly what that person can already see in Ravio. Nobody gains access to compensation data they don't already have.

#### **What does the Ravio MCP do?**

The connector reads your organisation's market benchmarks, salary bands, and company pay analysis. As of 14 October 2026, some tools can also edit your Ravio data: creating and publishing band scenarios, setting band ranges, managing band groups and locations, mapping job titles and employees, and deleting any of those. Every edit tool confirms the change with you before it makes it. The tool list below has a View / Edit column showing which is which, and your Claude administrator can switch off or gate any individual tool.

#### **How is my data handled?**

Your prompts and the data returned are processed by whichever assistant you're using, under their provider's terms. Treat it the same way you'd treat pasting Ravio data into any third-party tool. This matters more for some tools than others. Market benchmarks are aggregated and anonymised. But the **Bands** and **Analyse your Company** tools return **employee personal data**: individual salaries, market positions, band placements, and gender and age pay equity figures. When you ask a question that uses those tools, that data goes to your AI provider and is handled under their terms, not ours. If that's not something you want leaving Ravio, your Claude administrator can switch off those specific tools. See **Can we control which tools our team can use?** below.

#### **How does the Ravio MCP handle authorisation and access?**

The Ravio MCP server uses an OAuth authentication flow through Auth0, the same identity provider our web application utilises. We require you to login with your email and a one time code sent to your inbox just like the existing web application. When you allow Claude to connect to the Ravio MCP, it has access to all the tools we expose. As of 14 October 2026 that includes tools that can edit your Ravio data, not only read it. Every edit tool confirms the change with you before it makes it, and your Claude administrator can switch off or gate individual tools. The full list of tools is in the answer below.

#### **What tools are exposed and what data is returned?**

As mentioned above, access is governed by the Ravio account of the user calling the tool. Every tool returns data subject to the same restrictions an admin has set for that user in the web application. The **View / Edit** column shows what each tool can do. Edit tools always confirm the change with you before making it. Some tools return `available: false` with a reason instead of data, for example when your company hasn't submitted the salary data a benchmark needs. That's expected behaviour, not an error. These are the tools available (list gets updated as new tools are released):

| Tool | What it returns | View/Edit tool |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `find_job_positions` | Ravio's job taxonomy: function, title, and specialism. Free-text search, paginates through all matches, 50 at a time by default and up to 200. | View |
| `find_benchmarking_locations` | The locations Ravio benchmarks in. Two filters: `benchmarksEnabled` lists the benefits countries you can see and flags which ones you can access; `payEquityEnabled` limits results to locations with pay equity data. Paginates 50 at a time by default, up to 200. | View |
| `list_market_segments` | The market segments your company can scope benchmarks by. Filter by role and location. Results include participating companies and local headcount for peer groups | View |
| `get_benchmarks` | Market pay benchmarks for a job position and location. Request specific levels, choose your currency, and view annual or monthly values. Add your company medians alongside the market, or build custom compensation mixes from selected salary, variable, and equity percentiles. Modelled totals and plan limitations are explained more clearly. Every level you request now comes back. Levels with no data return `available: false` and a reason. Variable and equity-based benchmarks are withheld until your company submits that data. | View |

#### **Can we control which tools our team can use?**

Yes. Your Claude Owner sets permissions for the Ravio connector centrally, down to individual tools. In Claude, go to **Customize**, then **Connectors**, select **Ravio**, and open **Tool permissions**. Tools are grouped by type, read-only and write/delete. Each group, or any individual tool within it, can be set to:

- **Always allow.** Claude uses it without asking.
- **Needs approval.** The user is prompted before each use.
- **Blocked.** Claude can't use it at all.

Whatever your Owner sets applies to everyone in your workspace, and individual users can't override it. Users can still switch tools off within a single conversation if they want to. Two common setups: block the write/delete group if you'd rather the connector stayed read-only, or block the Bands and Analyse your Company tools if you'd rather employee personal data didn't leave Ravio.

### Troubleshooting

A few errors you may come across:

#### **I can't see Ravio in my connector list.**

Your Claude Owner hasn't added it to the workspace yet, it's been added but not enabled, or you're looking in personal settings rather than the workspace catalogue. Check with your Owner first.

#### **Sign-in loops or fails.**

Sign-in uses the same email and one-time code flow as the Ravio web application, through Auth0. First, check the code hasn't expired. Request a fresh one rather than reusing an older email. If it still loops, sign out of Ravio at [app.ravio.com](https://app.ravio.com), clear your browser cookies for that site, then start the connection again from Claude. If you have more than one Ravio account, make sure you're entering the email tied to the account you want Claude to use.

#### **Connected, but the assistant ignores it.**

Start a brand new chat. Then name Ravio explicitly in your prompt: "Using Ravio, ...". Assistants don't always reach for a tool unless you point them at it.

#### **“Insufficient permissions” answer.**

Your Ravio account doesn't have access to the data you asked about. If you're not sure whether your account has the right access, any Ravio Admin or HR user can check and manage your role [here](https://app.ravio.com/settings/users). If you still have questions or issues, please reach out through our slack channel or via email [product@ravio.com](mailto:product@ravio.com).

#### **Claude says the data isn't available.**

Some tools return `available: false` with a reason rather than an error. The most common reason is that your company hasn't submitted the salary data that benchmark needs, so variable and equity benchmarks stay withheld until you do. It can also mean your role or plan doesn't cover that tool. Ask Claude to tell you the reason it was given. That usually points straight at what's missing.

#### **Answers look wrong.**

Please let us know either on Slack or email. Include the prompt you used and what you expected. Wrong answers are the most useful thing you can send us.
