# How does Ravio handle contractors and part-time employees?

## This article explains how contractors, part-time employees, and employees paid hourly or weekly appear in Ravio, and how they relate to our benchmarks.

- **Contractors** are excluded from Ravio by default. They don't appear in the platform and their pay isn't used in our benchmarks. You can configure this in the [onboarding settings](https://help.ravio.com/integration-settings-guide?hsLang=en)
- **Part-time employees** are included. Their salaries are annualised to a 100% FTE (full-time equivalent) salary, so you can compare them directly with our benchmarks.
- **Employees paid hourly, daily and weekly are excluded** as we cannot process these employees.

### Contractors

### How Ravio identifies contractors

Ravio looks at the employment type field in your HRIS (Human Resources Information System). Any employee whose employment type contains the word "contract" is excluded automatically. That covers values like "Contractor", "Contract worker", and "B2B contract".

If your HRIS uses a different label, for example "External", "B2B", "Consultant", or "Freelance", those employees won't be excluded automatically. You can let us know how you define these and we will exclude them for you.

### Choose who to include or exclude

You can set which employment types to include or exclude on the **Integration Settings** page during onboarding. Before you do, check:

1. **What your HRIS calls contractors.** Look at the exact values in the employment type field. If you operate in several countries, the labels may differ between them.
2. **Whether you want to exclude any other groups.** Common examples are interns, student workers, founders, and short-term consultants.
3. **Whether you want contractors to be visible.** Some companies want to see contractors to manage headcount across their full workforce. You can choose this on the same page.

If you've already finished onboarding and want to change these settings, get in touch with our Support team.

**Employees paid hourly, daily, or weekly**

Ravio works with annual salaries. We can't process hourly, weekly or daily pay, so employees paid this way are treated the same as contractors and aren't included in the platform.

### Part-time employees

### How part-time salaries appear

Part-time employees appear in Ravio alongside everyone else. Their salaries are annualised up to 100% FTE, which means you see what they'd earn working full time. This lets you compare every employee against the same full-time benchmark and get an accurate compa ratio.

For example, an employee working 24 hours a week and paid £36,000 is working at 60% of a 40-hour week. Ravio shows their salary as £60,000 (£36,000 ÷ 0.6), and compares that with the benchmark for their role, level, and location.

### How Ravio annualises salaries

To annualise a salary, Ravio needs to know how much each person works.

**If you use an integration**

Let us know which field your HRIS uses to store this, either working hours or FTE percentage. If you use Personio, this is handled automatically.

**If you use a manual upload**

Add the hours each employee works to your upload file. By default, Ravio treats 40 hours a week as 100%. If your full-time working week is different, let us know so we can adjust it.

**Already annualised your salaries?** If the salaries in your HRIS or upload file are already at 100% FTE, don't add working hours as well. Otherwise the salary is annualised twice and will look much higher than it should.

### Check your part-time data

After your data is in Ravio, filter the employee view by employment type to show only part-time employees. Check a few salaries to make sure they look right at 100% FTE. If something looks unexpectedly high or low, get in touch with our Support team.

### Frequently asked questions

### Why can't I see our contractors in Ravio?

This is expected. Contractors are excluded by default to keep your employee data and benchmark comparisons accurate. If you'd like them to be visible, you can set this on the Integration Settings page during onboarding, or contact our Support team.

### Some contractors are showing in Ravio. Why?

Your HRIS probably uses an employment type label that doesn't contain the word "contract", such as "External" or "Freelance". Update your exclusions on the Integration Settings page, or contact our Support team.

### Why does a part-time employee's salary look higher than what they're paid?

Ravio shows part-time salaries annualised to 100% FTE, so you can compare them fairly with full-time benchmarks. The figure reflects what they'd earn working full time.

### A part-time employee's salary looks far too high. What's wrong?

The salary may have been annualised twice. This happens when the salary is already at 100% FTE and working hours are added as well. Check your source data and get in touch with our Support team if you need help.

### Do part-time salaries affect Ravio's benchmarks?

Yes. Because part-time salaries are annualised to 100% FTE, they're included in our benchmark data.
