EU Pay Transparency: FAQs

Ravio does not provide legal advice. Use of the Ravio platform does not constitute or guarantee compliance with the EU Pay Transparency Directive or any other applicable legislation. You should seek independent legal advice on your specific compliance obligations.

How does the EU Pay Transparency tool help me in my compliance journey?

Our EU Pay Transparency tool supports your compliance with the EUPTD. It provides the operational and data foundations you need to work towards compliance. It helps you group roles into equal value categories, gives you visibility into your gender pay gap by country, and helps respond to employee pay requests.

However, it doesn't ensure or guarantee your compliance.

For the practical walkthrough, see the EU Pay Transparency: Setup Guide.

Does setting up equal value categories make me compliant?

No, setting up your equal value categories (EVCs) is a first step towards compliance, not the finish line.

EVCs give you a structure to run gap analysis and reporting against, which many EUPTD obligation depends on. What they don’t do is assess whether your categories, or your pay practices within them, meet the specific national transposition of the directive or how defensible your pay policies or gaps are. That judgement still sits with you, and where useful, your own legal or HR advisers.

Why does Ravio suggest equal value categories group by job family and level?

Job family and level is our fast default, to give you a reasonable starting point. It’s rarely the final solution to setting up equal value categories.

Most Ravio customers already structure roles by job family and level, so it's the quickest way to get a usable, working set of categories from data you already have in the platform, with no manual mapping needed. For customers earlier in their EUPTD journey, that's often a helpful starting point because it turns "we haven't defined equal value categories at all" into "we have a structure we can analyse and refine."

However, this isn’t a finished, methodology-complete equal value assessment. The EUPTD requires grouping by skill, responsibility, effort and working conditions. This tool gives you the creates groupings of different job families and levels but you will need to refine these based on your own interpretation of ‘equal value’ based on skill, responsibility, effort, and working conditions.

We also offer more sophisticated grouping as an option when you set up your categories, for customers who want closer alignment. This takes slightly longer for our platform to produce and neither route is the finish line on its own; both are inputs to your compliance work, rather than a substitute for it.

What's the difference between the two ways to build equal value categories?

When creating equal value categories with our EU Pay Transparency tool, you will receive two paths:

  • Fast setup: To see your numbers straight away, Ravio proposes a category for each job family and level combination (1:1), drawn straight from your existing job architecture. It's the fastest route to a working structure, which you can then refine.
  • Custom setup: Ravio also suggests potential combinations based on a general knowledge derived from your job architecture. This proposal makes assumptions about skills, responsibility, effort, and working conditions derived from the job family and level. It takes more time, because it needs more of your judgement and customisation.

Remember, you can start simple and refine later.

Does this cover how my country has implemented the directive?

Not yet in full. Answers about the directive itself are grounded in the directive text and cite the relevant article, but national transpositions are still being finalised. Where it's relevant, we may flag that national rules differ. We don't yet answer questions about your specific country's version of the law.

Where can I get help, or flag something that looks wrong?

Talk to your Customer Success contact or use in-app chat. We're treating accuracy issues as a priority during the beta, so flag anything that looks off, especially a number, straight away.
